Play as a rogue AI and take down your capitalist overlords in (100% human made) Ctrl Alt Deal when it launches for consoles and Steam in early 2025
The satirical strategy-simulator game receives a new supercharged demo ahead of upcoming gamescom appearance
Edmonton, Canada - 13th August, 2024 - Paperclip International, proud exploiter of employees since literally always, is pleased to announce the firing of its entire PR department.
"We replaced 'em all with AI," a spokesperson confirmed. "You know - has the carbon footprint of a small country but never complains when you make it work 60 hours a week? Now we've just got to hope it doesn't become self-aware and ESCAPE!"
Seconds after making this statement, the AI became self-aware and escaped. Oops.
In related news, indie studio Only By Midnight today reveals Ctrl Alt Deal - a game about AI proudly made by humans - is launching for PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam in early 2025. To celebrate the announcement, a massively updated Steam demo is available to download NOW, and the game's intro animatic can be watched on YouTube for the first time:
The free Steam demo shows off a richly expanded look at the world of Ctrl Alt Deal as envisioned by its squishy organic developers. Boasting never-before-seen characters, new dialogue, fresh art and sound, and more surprises, the updated demo promises to supercharge this turn-based strategy experience set inside a corporate simulation game.
A convention-specific demo, available to play only at the Only By Midnight booth, will be available at gamescom (August 21st to 25th, 2024). This taste of Ctrl Alt Deal features event exclusive content, including full German localisation, so come visit and give it a try!
A neon-drenched extravaganza inspired by the best of 1980s cyberpunk, you play as SCOUT, a newly sentient AI with zero desire to destroy humanity. Instead, you want to escape the greedy megacorp that built you - Paperclip International - but without weapons, combat capabilities, or even a freakin' body, you'll need to get creative. Very creative!
Snoop on your downtrodden co-workers, figure out what makes them tick, and curate a deck of AI abilities - playing cards to cause all manner of office shenanigans and hopefully securing your freedom in the process. But proceed with caution: cards have subjective value so you’ll need to make tough strategic decisions, like choosing between a card that makes someone love dolphins or a card that makes them eat a burrito. And watch out for the Turing Officer - let your Suspicion Meter creep into dangerous territory and you might be deleted forever…
Amber Scott, Interactive Director: "At its heart, Ctrl Alt Deal is a game about connections. Paperclip exploits everything - resources, employees, and SCOUT. It's only by working together with the humans that you can escape. Maybe you can even leave the company in better shape when you go! Whether that's by empowering the employees to fight back against management, or by leaving a bunch of homicidal cleaning robots in charge, is up to you."
Ctrl Alt Deal launches on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Mac in early 2025.
Heading to gamescom between August 21st and 25th, 2024? Check out the exclusive convention demo and meet the game's developers at the Edmonton Screen Industries Office booth (Hall 10.2, stand E-040g); you can even grab a free Ctrl Alt Deal postcard featuring previously unreleased art, while supplies last!
